THE MOST IMPORTANT POINT

A basic fare ticket alone is not enough

Ametsuchi is not a limited express. Every seat is a reserved Green Car seat on a local/rapid train.

How to reserve

  1. 1

    Check the operating calendar

The route and operating day change. Confirm the exact Ametsuchi service first.

  2. 2

    Reserve from one month before

Sales normally begin at 10:00 one month before departure.

  3. 3

    Choose the train and seat

Buy the basic fare and the local-train reserved-seat Green Ticket through e5489, a JR ticket office or an eligible travel agency.

  4. 4

    Collect the ticket before boarding

Tickets booked through e5489 usually need to be collected at an eligible JR station before travel.

THREE MAIN OPERATING PATTERNS

The route changes by operating day

One round trip normally operates on selected days. Do not assume the regular Tottori–Izumoshi route is running.
01SAN’IN MAIN LINE

Tottori ↔ Izumoshi

The main route links Tottori, Kurayoshi, Yonago, Yasugi, Matsue and Izumoshi. Some return services may terminate at Yonago.

02KISUKI LINE

Yonago ↔ Izumoyokota

A special operating pattern entering the Kisuki Line through Yasugi, Matsue, Shinji and Kisuki.

03INABA & TAJIMA

Tottori ↔ Kinosaki Onsen

A special eastbound route along the San’in Main Line through Iwami, Hamasaka and Toyooka.

ON BOARD

What to enjoy on board

The train is designed around the landscapes and culture of San’in rather than speed.
VIEW

Scenic slow running

On applicable routes, the train slows near highlights such as Mt. Daisen, Lake Shinji, the Hii River and the Sea of Japan.

SEAT

53 reserved Green seats

The small two-car train has 26 seats in Car 1 and 27 in Car 2, so early booking is sensible.

GUIDE

Local commentary

An attendant or local guide may introduce scenery and culture; the arrangement depends on the route.

FOOD

Pre-order meals

Selected meals and sweets can be ordered separately through tabiwa after your seat is reserved. Availability and deadlines vary.

BEFORE YOU GO

  • ✓Carry both the basic fare ticket and the reserved-seat Green Ticket.
