Choose the purchase place for your journey
For a journey entirely within the Chizu Line, tell staff that you need a Chizu Express ticket.Kamigōri, Ōhara and Chizu
Direct-operated station counters sell ordinary tickets, limited express tickets and other eligible products during staffed hours.
Sayo Station
The station has a Chizu Line-only ticket machine for ordinary tickets and a Midori ticket machine Plus.
JR station
JR can sell eligible through tickets. Confirm that the displayed route is via the Chizu Line.
Online or travel agency
Use e5489 for eligible reserved seats, or a major travel agency for tickets that cannot be issued at a JR station.
PAYMENT
Many payment methods at direct-operated stations
Kamigōri, Ōhara and Chizu accept a broad range of payment methods for ticket purchases.Transport IC cards can be used to pay for a ticket at eligible counters, but cannot be used as a touch-in/touch-out card to ride the Chizu Line. No IC card charging is available.

Boarding and leaving at unstaffed stations
Chizu Express local trains operate as one-person trains.- 1
Board through the rear door
Even if you already have a ticket, take a numbered ticket when boarding at an unstaffed station.

Keep both tickets
Keep the numbered ticket and any ticket or pass until you leave.

Prepare the fare
Only ¥1,000 notes can be changed onboard; prepare coins or a ¥1,000 note.

Leave through the front door
Put the fare or ticket into the fare box beside the driver. At a staffed station, hand it to ticket-gate staff.
!JAPAN RAIL PASS does not cover the Chizu Express section. Check the separate JR-WEST pass conditions because coverage differs by pass.
